Founded in 1993, New Sensations is one of the more successful straight porn studios. Most of their offerings are very much not in the spirit of feminist porn but are pretty generic porn of an objectifying but not outright offensive nature. In 2010, however, and after doing a fair bit of market research, New Sensations launched their Romance Series in an attempt to produce "erotica for women that is equally enticing for men".
The movies in the Romance series itself are all very story-focused, with the stories revolving around romance and love, and the sex is generally well-integrated into the stories. The stories vary from pretty cheezy to very good, and the acting runs the same gamut. But all of the movies in this series are enjoyable to watch, and the best of them are truly fantastic.
It was by winning a script-writing contest for Dear Abby that Jacky St James came to be involved with porn. She wrote several additional scripts for the Romance Series after that one and, as is now well known, she has since become an important director in her own right. Her films The Temptation of Eve and The Submission of Emma Marx, which were released in the Erotic Stories line, generated a huge amount of attention and won several awards. She subsequently introduced three additional series of vignette-based films, as well: Tales From the Heart, Tales From the Edge, and Tabu Tales. Those two series all have their own pages.
One thing we have definitely noticed is that these movies get better as the directors and producers get more experience making this sort of film. I.e.: The later ones tend to be better than the earlier ones. It may therefore be worth listing all of the films in this series, in order of release:
- 2010
- 2011
- 2012
- The Friend Zone
- Love, Marriage, and Other Bad Ideas
- Shared Wives (Swingers Series)
- Friends With Benefits (Swingers Series)
- 2014
Some of these movies are available from Lust Cinema in high definition. All of them are available in some form or other from the New Sensations subscription site, and most of them are available in hi-def there, as well.
