Review

Feminist porn legend Erika Lust created the XConfessions series in 2013. She solicits stories and fantasies from her fans and chooses two each month to make into short films. It's a tremendous idea, to give cinematic vision to the imaginings of ordinary people. And it has been extremely successful. It is utterly different from stereotypical porn imagery.

Each DVD in the series features ten of these short films. There is great variation in the themes of the various scenes.

As we said about the first and second collections, many of these scenes are as interesting intellectually and visually as they are erotic. Lust is extremely tender with the fantasies that have been offered to her, and she tries very hard to bring out what is special about them.

That said, compared with the first two collections, we found this one mildly disappointing. There's certainly nothing bad here, but there's only one really oustanding scene here, the third, "Take Me Drunk, I'm Home", with Samantha Bentley and Luke Hotrod. They both play their roles very well, and he is very tender with her.

There are a number of other very good scenes. We particularly enjoyed the second, "Romance Bullshit", partly because it features the wonderful Amarna Miller, but also because the way the story is told features a really striking little twist. There is something similarly clever about the sixth, "Cinema X (Pigalle)", which mixes various fantasies into a lovely montage. The seventh scene, "Fräulein O", with the lovely Sicilia and her frequent partner Sean, is also inventive, featuring a lot of ice, and sweaty sex, on a hot summer day. And, interestingly, although the last scene, "Rush of the Forbidden", is one of the shortest, it is also one of the hottest. Samia Duarte and Clarke Kent play two complete strangers who fuck in the woods near a campground, though they don't even speak the same language. Their nervousness and excitement are palpable.

We also appreciated the very feminine perspective that is featured in many of these stories. This is especially true of the first four, which are very focused on the woman's experience and pleasure. However, while we know that orgasm isn't the be-all and end-all of sex, we do rather like it when women have them, especially since there are very few scenes (and none here) in which their male partners don't.

The photography is its usual incredible, and there are more wonderful little moments that Lust manages to capture than one could possibly catalog. So, overall, we certainly do recommend this collection. But, as we said, it isn't quite as good as the first two.

Scene 1: A Weekend in the Garden of Eden (Samia Duarte and Clarke Kent, ♀♂)

They play with food, rubbing it all over each other, then make love in the grass. The scenery is lovely, and they both seem to have a good time. It's very sexy, and beautiful.

Scene 2: Romance Bullshit (Amarna Miller and Ryan James, ♀♂)

The sex in question happens mostly in a pool, in a dream-like sequence accompanied by her all too torrid prose.

We loved the voyeuristic shots of him, and the way she objectifies him. There's a subplot of sorts, too, as Amarna gets ever more excited, and the other writers start to notice, especially when she has an orgasm. It's a typically clever sort of twist for an Erika Lust film. She never seems to miss opportunities to poke a bit of fun at people's seriousness about sex.

The sex itself is, well, sexy, and she seems to enjoy herself a good deal. But, while we know orgasm isn't the end-all and be-all, we do rather appreciate when women have them.

Scene 3: Take Me Drunk, I'm Home (Samantha Bentley and Luke Hotrod, ♀♂)

The massage is sensual, and we liked the way it was shot, often focused on his hands on her body. We also loved the natural way it became sexual, first with them kissing and then his starting, ever so lightly, to pleasure her pussy. The music really contributes to relaxed feeling of the scene.

She certainly does seem to enjoy herself, but she never seems very near orgasm. By itself, that isn't necessarily a problem, but it did seem odd since this is meant to be her fantasy.

Scene 5: Boat Buddies With Benefits (Paulita Pappel and Clarke Kent, ♀♂)

Scene 6: Cinema X (Pigalle) (Irina Vega and Fenyx Santos, ♀♂)

There are only a few of them in the theater, and she is eating popcorn while what looks like seventies porn plays on the screen. And then...we won't tell the story, because that would only give away too much of what happens.

We love the way that the different fantasies mix in the story. We also liked the random piano sounds, intentional or not, and of course how the scene is shot, which is even better than usual. But the sex itself is not quite as passionate as we'd have wanted it to be, and she never seems all that aroused until the very end, when he cums on her stomach and tits.

Still, it is such an interesting film.

Scene 7: Fräulein O (Sicilia and Sean, ♀♂)

The only complaint we have here is that she never seems terribly close to orgasm.

Scene 8: I Wish I Was a Lesbian (Maria Agrado, Paulita Pappel, and Zoe Geovanna, ♀♀)

Eventually, one of the hosts offers Maria her choice of four dildos, saying, "Would you like a coffee?" Maria takes a couple of the dildos and licks them as her hosts start to kiss in front of her. "In my next life, I want to be with a woman", Maria says, and they encourage her to join them.

As so often in Lust's movies, we're left to wonder what is fantasy and what is reality. And the ending only makes it worse.

It's a very long story as these videos go, nearly seven minutes. And it's a very sexy one.

The sex is relaxed and fun, and there are plenty of orgasms to go around, some by fingers and some by mouths. But the editing felt a little bit disjointed at times, which made it hard to stay connected with them. And the sex never felt as passionate as we wanted it to be. This is meant to be Maria's first time with women, and with two other women at that, but it all seems a bit matter of fact.

Scene 9: El Que No Ama No Conoce a Dios (Irina Vega and Fenyx Santos, ♀♂)
